Istituto Affari Internazionali, on behalf of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium, is organizing a ‘Next Generation Workshop’ to be held virtually on 25 November 2020. The Consortium is a European network bringing together foreign policy institutions and research centres from across the EU to encourage the dialogue against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The ‘Next Generation Workshop’ provides the opportunity for junior diplomats, students, researchers and professionals, to present their work within the field of arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament.
Our researcher Quitterie de Labbey will deliver a presentation on Trade Regulation and the Fight Against Illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), focusing on:
- Cases of diversion occurring during trade activities, including domestic acquisition, but also imports, exports and transfers
- Specific loopholes in the EU and national legislations and enforcement of the law that may create incentives for diversion
- Best practices to enhance the detection and investigation of diversion
