Photo Exhibition (reprise): The graves are nice at this time of year (Jimmy Kets)

Date
05/10/2023 - 01/12/2023
8:00 - 21:00

From 5 October to 1 December 2023, a selection from Jimmy Kets’ acclaimed photo series The graves are nice this time of year will exceptionally be on display again in the Panorama Room of Campus South of the Karel De Grote Hogeschool in Antwerp. The photographs encourage reflection on the commemoration and remembrance of the First World War and also bring that memory to life. The masterful, layered and uninhibited way in which this series does so is to Jimmy Kets’ credit.

Moreover, Maarten Van Alstein, researcher at the Flemish Peace Institute, will use the photographs to reflect on the idiosyncrasies and peculiarities of war commemoration and the politics of remembrance during a one-off lecture on 9 November. This leads to a question that is particularly topical today: can we learn from our past of war and violence? Maarten Van Alstein’s lecture will take place on Thursday 9 November 2023 between 7pm and 10.30pm.

The exhibition can be visited between 5 October and 1 December, Monday to Friday from 8am to 9pm
Address: Campus Zuid – Brusselstraat 45, 2018 Antwerp.
Entrance is free.
