Lectures at the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR)

From 4 to 6 July 2022, the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) organizes its conference on organized crime. Nils Duquet, director at the Flemish Peace Institute, will address policies that aim to combat illegal firearms trafficking and firearm violence in Europe. He will elaborate on the need to improve our intelligence picture regarding these topics, and the process of developing a firearm violence monitor as part of Project INSIGHT.

Researcher Dennis Vanden Auweele will address the nexus between criminal (dis)organization, access to firearms and firearm violence. In countries with intricately structured criminal groups (eg Italy and Estonia), firearm violence has been seen to decline while in countries with poorly structured, or entirely disorganized, criminal groups (eg Sweden) firearm violence has increased.
